That guy in the store,
\nBuying yarn by the score
\nWith a fever that I think that we know
\nWith his hunched look of guilt;
\nThere's a half-finished quilt
\nIn his bag, and three skeins of merino.<\/p>\n
As he unpacks his order,
\nWhich he can't afford,
\nHe'll sigh, feeling worn and defeated.
\nAnd the walls of the room
\nStrain to hold spindles, looms,
\nAnd projects that won't be completed<\/p>\n
Poor impulse control
\nWhen fiber craft calls, he is held in its thrall.
\nHalf-finished tapestries, unravelled shawls,
\nSpeak of poor impulse control.<\/p>\n
The QA you hear frown
\nFrom three cubicles down
\nHas scrolled now for two solid hours
\nShe tried not to be grabbed –
\nBut a (1) in the tab
\nIs holding her under its power.<\/p>\n
It sings her a song
\nOf some guy who is wrong
\nOn the net and must now be corrected.
\nShe will close the tab, then
\nHave it open again
\nIn a span of time barely detected.<\/p>\n
Poor impulse control
\nShe tries not to fall into feeding the trolls.
\nHer emails unread while the net takes its toll
\nOf her poor impulse control.<\/p>\n
We do what we can
\nBut whatever we plan
\nThere's nothing but chaos behind it
\nThe brains we have got
\nMore often than not
\nWill grab onto joy where they find it<\/p>\n
So don't be unkind
\nTo your struggling mind;
\nWork with what you have, not against it.
\nTake care of yourselves
\nAnd make room on your shelves
\nFor the days when your resolve is tested…<\/p>\n

\nWe need to feel whole in our spirit and soul
\nAnd sometimes that means extra cinnamon rolls
