\nI've developed an intensly negative reaction to the "Go-Play-With-Fairies" brand of filk. I mean, I'll enjoy the songs as much as the next person, but I dislike the worldview they portray – "We don't belong, we should run away someplace where we'll be happy". It's annoyingly irresponsible.
\nBesides, I quite like the idea of growing up.

My Angela went with you, adventures on her mind.
\nI watched you, my sight blurred with tears of joy and sorrow twined.
\nYou gave to her a thimble and sword that fit her size,
\nBut it was never you that wiped the tears from my child's eyes.<\/p>\n

Like me, she wanted to become your mother, wife and friend,
\nBut there's no happy ending to a story with no end.
\nBeside my dreams there lies a truth I much too carefull hid:
\nYou never will grow up – nor would we love you if you did!<\/p>\n

Never again to fall in love with heartless boys,
\nNever again – I've left you as I left my toys.
\nNever again, though the mother I am cries for you –
\nNever again. My days of flying are long through.
