Hymn to Lying Language Machines

By: Tamir Buchshtav
TTTO: Hymn to Breaking Strain by Rudyard Kipling, performed by Julia Ecklar and Leslie Fish

The careful must consider
(Let all who search beware!)
The data, facts, and figures
The internet may share
So when the false, erroneous
Disrupts a well-thought plan
Of failure lies the onus
Upon the seeking man
Not on the net – the man

But in our daily dealing
With LLMs we spy
The Chat has no such feeling
Of what is truth or lie
'Tis no real fact it tells us
No real or fake it knows
And presently presents us
With garbage that it shows
It's not the truth it shows

The prudent seeker finds it
In sources verified
This mushroom can be pick'd
Or must be set aside?
Which court case sets precedent
Which football fans to bar
But they who ask Copilot
Won't get it up to par
Before they go too far

We hold all information
In our hand to seek
To data-rich to function
To tell if fact or trick
Still, in the flood of chatbots
Who offer all we will
Truth seems to be the jackpot
Whose finding is a skill
'Ware, lest you lose the skill

We only in Creation
(Oh, luckier the Claude and Grok)
Abide the spam'd damnation
Which all the tech-bros hawk
Yet we-by which sure token
Can tell the lies from truth
Still leave the words unspoken
That answers must have proof
The burden that is proof

Oh, stupid drain of power
Whose lies we drink in vain
Begone now from this hour
Of overthrow and pain
That we-by which sure token
We know thy ways are false
In spike of secrets broken
Or because of secrets broken
Acknowledge all your faults
Admit to all your faults
