Daughter of Orion

אוקטובר 20th, 2008 by Dana
Daughter of Orion
Sometimes, being alone is a choice. I've always been conflicted about choosing to be more social. This is a song to the girl I might have been, which I occasionally wish I still was.

Tune: Original

She sits alone, she walks alone,
She'll never notice me and you.
At night, she'll wait for hours, still,
In grasses wet with dew.

Don't look into her eyes; they shine
With fires dead a million years.
With eyes this bright and dead, no wonder
She won't shed a tear.

Child of starry night-skies, lonely and so proud,
The silence wraps around you like luminescent shroud.
Daughter of Orion, arrogant and haught,
Perhaps the stars will want what men do not.

The sky awaits her; thus she swears
Though I have seen the heavens move
And while she's sure they go for her
It's something she can't prove,

And in her heart of hearts, she knows
A painful truth to bear;
She gave her heart to love the stars.
The stars will never care.

Child of starry night-skies, sitting cold and still.
I weep for her sake, although the night-skies never will.
Daughter of Orion, barren and bereft -
If you don't have the stars, what else is left?

She feels it yawning in her chest,
A faint and painless lack;
It's easiest to love those things
That will not love you back.

She's light-years far from humans,
Though why I cannot see.
She'll watch the sky for hours,
But she's not once looked at me.

Child of starry night-skies, put away your telescope:
I'm lost adrift around you. Pull me in. You're my last hope.
Daughter of Orion, beautiful and far,
Must you be as distant as the stars?
