To find the sun
by Tamir Buchshtav

When winter covered all in snow,
The only light the northern glow,
The shaman said it's time to go,
And he should know, and he should know.

'The sun was stolen by the night!
And soon he'll take the northern light!
So if we want to keep our sight,
We have to fight, we have to fight!'

The four took oaths to fight as one,
And do whatever need be done,
And set of westwards at a run,
To find the sun, to find the sun.

They had an urgent need for haste,
And so they ran towards the west,
Across the endless frozen waste,
No time to waste, no time to waste.

The darkness hindered not their way,
Their need helped keep the fear at bay,
In endless night, the light of day,
Seemed far away, seemed far away.

They traveled nearly half a year,
When one of them began to hear,
A distant song, then coming near,
'What have we here? What have we here?'

His shoulders then began to shake,
?'How can it be that we are back
Got turned in our westward trek,
Who failed to check? Who failed to check?'

And then they saw the light appear,
And everyone began to cheer,
The sun rose high as they drew near,
No need to fear, no need to fear.

The shaman blessed their holy might,
That drove away the evil night,
By bringing back the blessed light,
'But we didn't fight, we didn't fight!

We didn't help return the sun,
All we ever did was run,
Nothing needed to be done,
We saw no one, we saw no one!"

But no one listened to their cry,
To busy welcoming the sky,
To even ask the question 'why?
Are you so shy, are you so shy?'
